Waiting for GTA VI on PC: what is known, and what to play now

Grand Theft Auto VI is one of the most anticipated games in years, and PC players are in an odd position: they are waiting for a game that has not been announced for their platform. This is what is known at the time of writing (26 October 2026), what is not, and what to do in the meantime.
What has been announced
Rockstar Games' own site lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a release date of 19 November 2026. A PC version has not been announced: there is no date, no price and no list of system requirements. There have been press reports about a later PC release, but neither Rockstar nor its owner, Take-Two Interactive, has confirmed any of them, so we do not treat any of them as a date. Release dates can move, and Rockstar's own site is the place to check.
Why a PC player might wait
Rockstar's last big release is a reminder that console and PC dates can be far apart: Grand Theft Auto V came out on consoles in 2013 and on PC in April 2015. That history is not a promise about this game. It is a reason not to plan around a PC date that nobody has given.
What to watch out for
- "Pre-order keys". While no PC version has been announced, nothing sold as a PC key for it can be real. Be careful with any listing, video or message that offers one. A real pre-order opens on a store's own page for a game that has been announced for PC.
- Prices and editions. Nothing about a PC price is known, so any figure you read for one is a guess.
- Cheap keys in general. Keys from shops other than Steam can be a good saving, and the rules for checking them are in Steam keys or the Steam store.
What to play meanwhile
If what you are missing is a big open-world game with a city to explore, driving and trouble to cause, there are plenty of PC games in that style that are older and cheaper than a new release will be. Our short list of open-world action games that are on PC appears above when enough of them are on sale and well reviewed. Games a few years old often reach their lowest tracked price in a sale, and every game page shows the price over time, so you can see whether today's price is one of those, as in how to tell if a deal is good.
For the day a PC version is announced, two things help. Add it to your Steam wishlist once it has a page there, and the wishlist checker will show when it is on sale. And set a price alert on its SaveSpawn page once the stores we compare list it. Until then, anyone who gives you a date or a price for the PC version is guessing.
